Be part of a dynamic team where your efforts contribute to a greater purpose. As a Junior Data Exchange Engineer, within the IT and Data Infrastructures Division (I2D), you'll have the opportunity to work on EUMETCast, EUMETSAT's near-real time dissemination system for satellite data and products.

You will contribute to the near real-time delivery of vital environmental information across Europe and beyond. You will collaborate with experts to maintain and enhance the operational software and systems essential for exchanging data with our users and partners. Whether you are harnessing multicast technology to optimize data distribution or fine-tuning our systems for peak performance, you will be at the forefront of delivering crucial data to users.

Duties
  • Design, prototype and develop small to medium size software applications in support to data dissemination and multi-mission elements of the EUMETSAT ground segment;
  • Support maintenance and evolutions of operational software, systems and services related to data exchange;
  • Contribute to requirements engineering, service specifications, architecture and design of software applications and their technical documentation;
  • Provide support to operations and deployment activities of related software applications, systems and services and support engineering change proposals, configuration control and quality assurance activities;
  • Support technical interactions with service providers, vendors and industrial partners.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    A university degree in a relevant engineering discipline, e.g. Computer Science, software engineering or other relevant discipline.

    LANGUAGES

    The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

    Duties
  • Design, prototype and develop small to medium size software applications in support to data dissemination and multi-mission elements of the EUMETSAT ground segment;
  • Support maintenance and evolutions of operational software, systems and services related to data exchange;
  • Contribute to requirements engineering, service specifications, architecture and design of software applications and their technical documentation;
  • Provide support to operations and deployment activities of related software applications, systems and services and support engineering change proposals, configuration control and quality assurance activities;
  • Support technical interactions with service providers, vendors and industrial partners.
  • Skills and Experience
  • Strong motivation to develop in the areas of software and service engineering in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Openness to learning and growing expertise, alongside great teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of software engineering.
  • Awareness of system engineering standards.
  • Practical work experience with some of the following topics would be advantageous:

  • Object-oriented programming languages, e.g. Java, C++.
  • Unix Computer operating systems and scripting languages, e.g. Python.
  • Virtualization, containerization, and network protocols, e.g. TCP/IP, UDP.
  • Employment Conditions

    The initial contract will be under the EUMETSAT Early Career Employee Programme (ECEP), for two years with grade A1. Subject to successful performance, a further contract of 5 years’ duration will be awarded in a post graded A2-A4. Additional contracts may be awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63, and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.     The basic salary for this post is EURO per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances). The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
