Organizational Development Intern (Fall)

The Organizational Development Department for the City of Georgetown is offering one internship position to help support the Business Improvement Program, the Performance Management Program, and Learning and Development by performing a variety of project management and specialized professional-level administrative support tasks. The intern will also learn about the other functions of the Organizational Development Department, including coordinating with various departments and conducting varying levels of analysis regarding a variety of improvement efforts. The student intern would be working primarily in an office environment.

The internship’s anticipated start date is August 19, 2024, and the anticipated end date is December 18, 2024. The internship is approximately 20 hours per week for approximately 17 weeks.

  • Assists in learning and development initiatives which may include training development and delivery, event planning, and working within the learning management system

  • Assists in the preparation and coordination of various reports and initiatives

  • Assists in project management activities including project planning, research, data collection, and report preparation

  • Works on and manages assigned improvement projects which may include the facilitation and use of tools and techniques that promote continuous improvement

  • Effectively organizes and prioritizes multiple assignments and projects

  • Provides professional level support to Organizational Development and performs skilled administrative, operational, and consulting duties (e.g. conducts and analyzes research, program development, project management/coordination, sharing best practices, and conducts focus groups)

  • Makes both formal and informal presentations to staff members, officials, and the general public

  • Maintains current knowledge of city administrative procedures

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Help maintain the internal website

  • Create internal marketing materials

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, training, and Experience:

    Third or fourth-year student pursuing a four-year Bachelor’s degree (or Master’s degree) in the following fields of study: Human Resources, Business or Public Administration, Economics, Psychology, Math, Sociology, or related degree.

    Knowledge of:

  • Good customer service practices and principles

  • Best practices for working with data

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Skills in:

  • Continual attention to detail: must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to prioritize duties and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Ensuring outstanding customer service

  • Communicating diverse content and responding effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Using a computer and utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including advanced word processing/desktop publishing, Excel, and PowerPoint skills

  • Microsoft Power BI, Visio, and or survey platform skills helpful

  • Reading, analyzing, and interpreting procedure manuals, reports, memos, correspondence, and other documents

  • Data analysis and problem-solving

  • Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions

  • Effectively articulating and presenting information to management

  • Using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives

  • Accurately recording and maintaining records

  • Must be comfortable speaking with new people in person, via telephone, and through e-mail communication

  • Strong interpersonal skills: the ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, upbeat, and energetic, takes initiative, uses tact and diplomacy

  • Work with minimal supervision and direction

  • SCHEDULE

  • The internship will consist of 20 hours per week.

  • The duration of the internship is anticipated to last from August 19, 2024, to December 18, 2024. The last 2 weeks will be flexible to allow time for finals if needed.

  • Deadlines and schedules will be developed with the student and supervisor.

  • Dependable transportation is needed.

  • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Valid Class C Texas Drivers license

    EMPLOYMENT TESTING
    Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing, criminal background investigation, and driving record check.

    HIRING RANGE: $13.00, hourly.
