The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a W1 Professorship (with W2 tenure track) in Biomedical Microscopy with focus on High-Resolution Microscopy The position is offered with the earliest possible starting date for a period of six years pursuant to § 70 Para. 3 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG). According to § 70 Para. 3 HessHG, applicants (m/f/d) should have gained a doctoral degree at an institution of higher education other than Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) or have been in academic employment at an institution other than JLU for at least two years after conferral of a doctoral degree. The duration of applicants- scientific activity during and after completion of the doctoral degree should not exceed nine years or the duration of activity after the doctorate should not exceed four years. In the case of successful completion of the six-year W1 position, which is to be assessed in an evaluation procedure pursuant to § 70 Para. 2 HessHG, the appointment will be converted into a permanent W2 professorship. Proficient knowledge of German is expected. Duties: In the field of biomedical confocal and electron microscopy, you will be expected to represent the complete field of microscopy in research and teaching. The focus is on high-resolution confocal microscopy and structural electron microscopy. The aim is to provide an innovative addition to existing imaging units at JLU in order to strengthen the existing focus areas and areas of potential. The planning and implementation of self-initiated individual and collaborative research is also required, as is participation in graduate training within the framework of the Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL). During your work at JLU, success in the independent acquisition of external funding is expected. Your teaching activities include the organization and implementation of courses in the field of microscopy, biomedical confocal and electron microscopy. Your teaching program includes a clear focus on the practical-experimental training of students and graduates in modern imaging technologies. You are expected to develop innovative teaching and learning concepts and to demonstrate knowledge of university didactics. The professorship should be actively involved in further profile building of the faculty with its scientific networks and participate in the national and international collaborations of the faculty, for example with JLU-s partner universities. In addition, you should collaborate with other faculties and research associations of JLU. In particular, collaborations with the Cardio-Pulmonary Institute (CPI), the LOEWE Center DRUID and the Collaborative Research Center 1021 or their successor formats are conceivable. The integration of gender aspects in teaching and research is explicitly desired. Requirements: Substantial knowledge of confocal and transmission electron microscopy, documented by relevant publications in peer reviewed journals, is a prerequisite. Experience with cryo-electron microscopy is desirable. In addition, you have substantial knowledge in the processing of complex EM structural data and in the dynamic 3D models of proteins and protein complexes derived from them. A university degree and an outstanding relevant doctoral degree are prerequisites. The willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation within and outside JLU is also required. In addition, a special pedagogical aptitude is a prerequisite. Initial experience in the acquisition of external funding is desirable. In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
