PhD (f/m/d) Structural Biology of Inflammation(29.10.2024)
The Faculty of Medicine is one of the four foundingfaculties of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. With itsnon-clinical facilities as well as its research and teaching areacorresponding to the organisational units of the UniversityHospital, it is one of the largest medical training and researchinstitutions in Baden-Württemberg. Within our Department of MedicalOncology and Pneumology & Cluster of Excellence „Image-guidedand Functionally Instructed Tumor Therapies“ (iFIT) we are lookingfor a PhD (f/m/d) Structural Biology of Inflammation in parttime(65 %) and limited for 2 years with further extension expected.Inflammation is the first-line defence protecting out bodiesagainst various infections and damages. However, dysregulated dueto mutations, environmental factors or life style, inflammationdoes more bad than good. Indeed, chronic inflammation stands behindsuch pathologies as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, cancer and many other diseases of the modern-daysociety. The Andreeva labfocuses on structural and functionalaspects of inflammatory pathways underlying these pathologies. Byusing a combination of structural, biochemical and cell-basedapproaches we aim to comprehensively explain inflammatory pathwaysfrom molecular to cellular level, which is crucial for clinicalapplications and development of novel anti-inflammatory treatments,as well as next generation cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, which are the main goal of the iFIT Cluster of Excellence „ImageGuided and Functionally Instructed Tumor Therapies (iFIT)“consortium, which we are part of. Aufgaben - Perform molecularbiology techniques (cloning, mutagenesis) and recombinant proteinexpression with purification methods - Conduct protein biochemistryassays (SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting, fluorescence / activity assays)and cryo-EM workflows (grid preparation, data collection, modelbuilding) - Execute cell culture and cell-based assays, includingstable cell line generation and viability testing - Analyzeexperimental data and interpret results for scientific reporting -Write and present scientific findings clearly and effectivelyProfil - Diploma or Master-s degree (or equivalent) in molecularbiology, biochemistry, life sciences or a related discipline -Hands-on experience in molecular / cellular biology and proteinbiochemistry - Experience in structural biology is desirable -Strong interest in structural biology and immunity - Excellentorganization and communication skills - Fluency in English (writtenand spoken) Wir bieten We are a young group working on excitingprojects in a highly dynamic, relevant and rapidly developingfield.
