Thermal Engineer Intern

Huawei’s Nuremberg Research Center is responsible for Digital Power Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning.

The Huawei Automotive Electric Control Technology Laboratory will play an important role in the Huawei Digital Power Business Unit in the advanced electric drive control, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of automotive applications such as drivetrain, DC-AC inverter and fusion driving component, advanced AI/cloud technology, etc. As an employee you will be part of the HUAWEI Automotive R&D Competence Center in Nuremberg.

Now we are looking for a:

Intern Thermal Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with thermal simulations, including basic computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and stress analysis, using software tools like ANSYS or COMSOL under the guidance of senior engineers, to support the optimization of thermal performance in power converter solutions.
  • Support in designing experiments and help develop testing procedures. Assist in setting up test equipment, running tests, and analyzing data to evaluate thermal solutions. Help compare experimental results with predicted outcomes.
  • Learn and explore methods to improve cooling systems for thermal performance, energy efficiency, and packaging in EV powertrain, while contributing ideas for optimization and cost reduction.
  • Collaborate with engineers on the development of new products and participate in value-added engineering projects, performing basic engineering analyses and documenting findings to validate the performance of HVAC components and products with guidance from senior team members
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including Mechanical/Thermal Engineers, Power Electronics Engineers, and Packaging & Design Engineers, to learn about the integration of thermal solutions into overall product designs.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Thermal Engineering or any related fields
  • Familiarity with thermal simulation tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, Motor CAD, or MATLAB Simscape (hands-on experience is a plus).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills with a strong interest in career growth.
  • Willingness to handle multiple tasks and contribute in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in gaining hands-on experience in experimental setups for evaluating thermal solutions (experience is a plus but not required).
  • A desire to learn thermal analysis tools such as ANSYS Suite (Fluent, CFX), Ice Pak, or FloTHERM.
